Distance Education is one of the fastest developing trends in early childhood higher education and professional development. KCCTO began offering on-line learning opportunities in 2005 through a grant from the Kansas Nutrition Network highlighting the Nutrition: Good for You curriculum. KCCTO now offers several courses to choose from.
All KCCTO on-line learning courses are: * Fulfill the formal education requirements of the Child Development Associate Credential. * Taught by instructors who are approved KCCTO Trainers and have been trained specifically in on-line learning facilitation. * Designed to facilitate a sense of community among participants. * Asynchronous, meaning participants can access the course and complete the course requirements at anytime or anywhere (even at midnight in their jammies).

Nutrition: Good for You
This course provides a nutrition and physical activity curriculum. The five lessons are based on the 2000 and 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans issued jointly by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The course addresses division of responsibility between adults and children at mealtime, physical activity as an important part of the guidelines; how to improve meals for children by adding more whole grains, fruits and vegetables; and teaching cooking skills to young children. There is also a special emphasis on dental health messages as part of choosing healthy food and as part of a child’s daily routine.
